FERRET J.A

Domaine J.A. Ferret is one of the great names in the Pouilly-fuissé appellation. Founded in 1840, this estate was a pioneer in parcel-based vinification and estate bottling. Today, the white wines produced by Domaine J.A. Ferret are among the most renowned in southern Burgundy. Its Pouilly-Fuissé "Tête de cru" and "Hors classe" are highly reputed. Owned by Louis Jadot since 2008, the estate is managed by Audrey Braccini.

Location of domaine J.A. Ferret

The J.A. Ferret estate operates a 17-hectare vineyard planted with Chardonnay grapes. The parcels are mainly located in the commune of Fouissé, east of Mâcon. Located in southern Burgundy, this Mâconnais vineyard is at the heart of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Despite its small geographical area, the estate's vineyards boast a wide variety of soils. Some are thin and chalky, while others are clay, schist or sandstone.

Domaine J.A. Ferret wines

Domaine J.A. Ferret's white wines, made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, are organically grown. The vines are harvested by hand. The grapes are crushed and the stalks kept for pressing. The "Tête de cru" and "Hors classe" cuvées are aged in oak barrels for 10 months. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks for a further seven months. Bottling takes place on the estate.

Since the 1950s, the estate's finest crus have been produced from single parcels. One plot, one cuvée, one wine. In the absence of an official appellation, these exceptional crus are known as "Tête de cru" and "Hors classe". These include wines from the Perrières, Clos des Prouges and Les Ménétrières climats. From the 2020 vintage onwards, these crus will be formalized by the attribution of the Pouilly-Fuissé premier cru appellation. Alongside these Pouilly-Fuissé wines, Domaine J.A. Ferret produces white wines under the Mâcon-Fuissé, Mâcon-Solutré and Saint-Véran appellations.
