RIFFAULT CLAUDE

Domaine Claude Riffault experienced a new dynamic in 2001 with the arrival of Stéphane Riffault and his wife. Stéphane represents the fourth generation of this Loire Valley winemaking family. Trained in Burgundy, he is an enthusiast of terroir wines. His aim is to develop a parcel-by-parcel approach to the production of his Sancerre wines from the family estate. The organic and biodynamic cultivation of the vines enables the winemaker to refine his vineyard management in this direction. Success is on the cards. Domaine Claude Riffault wines sublimate the lieux-dits from which they originate.

Geographical location of Domaine Claude Riffault

Stéphane Riffault's estate is located in the village of Sury-en-Vaux, north of Sancerre. The vines cover 15 hectares, 13 of which are planted with Sauvignon Blanc and 2 with Pinot Noir. The winemaker's ambition is to reveal the qualities of the localities that make up his vineyard: Les Chailloux, Les Boucauds, Les Chasseignes, Les Denisottes and La Noue.

Each terroir on the estate has its own nuances, depending on its soils (limestone, marl, flint) and geographical exposure. The fruit produced by the vines must reflect these nuances. That's why Stéphane Riffault vinifies the grapes from each terroir separately.

Domaine Claude Riffault wines

Domaine Claude Riffault produces wines in the Sancerre appellation. For white wines, enthusiasts will appreciate the Sancerre from the estate's emblematic lieux-dits (Les Chailloux, Les Boucauds, Les Chasseignes, Les Denisottes) and the cuvée Mosaïque Calcaire. Stéphane Riffault is deepening his parcel-based approach by making two new Sancerre wines in 2018: cuvée Monoparcelle 469 and cuvée Monoparcelle 538. These wines highlight the nuances of Kimmeridgian marl subsoils. Domaine Claude Riffault also produces a Sancerre cuvée La Noue in red and rosé.
