MOREAU BENOIT

Benoît Moreau is the son of winemaker Bernard Moreau. After successfully running the family domaine with his brother, he decided to create his own domaine to put his vision of Burgundy wines into practice. Domaine Benoît Moreau came into being in 2020, thanks to plots of land from the family shareholding in Chassagne-Montrachet on the Côte de Beaune. To bring his bold project to fruition, he builds a new winery and implements a resolutely biodynamic approach to vineyard management. His aim is to express the full uniqueness of the Chassagne-Montrachet terroirs. For example, he favors a parcel-by-parcel approach to winemaking.

Geographical location of Domaine Benoît Moreau

The Benoît Moreau estate covers 4.2 hectares in the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation on the Côte de Beaune. The main grape variety is Chardonnay for the white wine (3.75 hectares). Pinot Noir for red wine (0.45 hectares). The vines are planted on some of the finest terroirs in Chassagne-Montrachet: Les Charrières, La Cardeuse and Les Fairendes.

His white Chassagne-Montrachet, for example, comes from two complementary parcels. One is located in Puligny-Montrachet on limestone soils. The second is in Chassagne-Montrachet, on rather clayey soils. An alchemy revealed by the talent of Benoît Moreau.

Domaine Benoît Moreau wines

The wines produced by Domaine Benoît Moreau are all from the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. They include four Premiers Crus. The Chassagne-Montrachet white wines are Les Chenevottes, En Remilly, La Maltroie and La Cardeuse. La Cardeuse has a monopoly for both white and red wines.

Benoît Moreau's Chassagne-Montrachet whites Les Fairendes, Les Charrières and Les Grandes Ruchottes are also great successes. Also worthy of note is the red Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes, made from an ancestral plot on the family estate.
