VILMART

Maison Vilmart is the result of 4 generations of winegrowers in Rilly-la-Montagne following a single guiding principle: to preserve the organic life and identity of the terroir. Founded in 1890, Maison Vilmart's approach to champagne is both measured and free-spirited.

At the helm since 1990, Laurent Champs, assisted today by his son, promotes the biodiversity and ecosystem of his vineyards. He has obtained the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC) certifications. This privileged relationship with the vines of the terroir is shared in each of the House's champagnes.

Location of Maison Vilmart

Maison Vilmart covers 11 hectares of vines grouped around the village of Rilly-la-Montagne. 4 hectares are planted with red grapes and 7 with white grapes. All the vines are exclusively Premier Cru parcels. The unity of location facilitates the care given to the vines.

The vineyard lies at the foot of the Montagne de Reims. It grows in a continental climate and on clay-limestone soil. Unlike most winegrowers, the Vilmart puis Champs family has chosen to cultivate a vineyard planted mainly with Chardonnay (60%).

Maison Vilmart wines

No pesticides, no herbicides, no insecticides: the champagne produced by Laurent Champs is in harmony with its environment. The vines are harvested by hand. Vinification is carried out entirely in wood, in old foudres, without malolactic fermentation.

From 35-year-old vines, Maison Vilmart produces 3 main champagne cuvées: Grande Réserve (70% Pinot Noir), Grand Cellier (80% Chardonnay) and Grand Cellier d'Or (80% Chardonnay). And on 60-year-old vines, the house produces its Cœur de Cuvée and Blanc de Blancs.
