BURGAUD JEAN-MARC

Descended from a family of winegrowers and educated in Burgundy, Jean-Marc Burgaud set up his own domaine in 1989 in Morgon, in the heart of the Beaujolais region, to which he gave his name. In 1992, he took over the Py vineyards from his father-in-law.

Location of Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud

Today, this family-run estate cultivates 19 hectares, a quarter of which are located on the region's most emblematic parcels, the Côte du Py. Its vines are located in the communes of Morgon and Villié-Morgon, and are between 40 and 60 years old on average. The particularity is that the soil is poor, with the bedrock close by and covered by a few centimeters of pebbles and sand. On this poor terroir, the vines suffer and produce small quantities of grapes of excellent quality. The grape varieties are typical of Beaujolais: Gamay and Chardonnay.

Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud wines

The whole harvest is vinified by semi-carbonic fermentation. For the reds, maceration lasts from 6 days for the Beaujolais-Villages to a maximum of 15 days for the Côte du Py. The estate uses very little sulfite. Individual cuvées are matured in barrels for longer periods, often in traditional casks, but also in demi-muids. On the wine side, Jean-Marc Burgaud is present in 3 appellations: Morgon, Beaujolais Villages and Régnié, which enable him to produce light, fruity wines as well as deeper, medium-age wines, or powerful, structured cuvées for longer ageing.
