ALPHONSE MELLOT

Domaine de la Moussière began as a simple idea for an inn, which was created in the early 19ᵉ century by Alphonse Mellot, to delight wine lovers in the town of Sancerre. In the years that followed, Alphonse Mellot worked to expand his estate, notably by starting his business in 1881 across France. Over the years, the vineyard became a family heirloom handed down from father to son. A symbol so strong that it gave rise to the tradition of naming each eldest son after the founding father, Alphonse Mellot.

Geographical location of Domaine d'Alphonse Mellot

The vineyard covers more than 30 hectares, allowing Sancerre's finest winemakers to freely express their art in the production of high-quality wines. Domaine Mellot is proud of its terroir. Indeed, based on special limestone soils (Saint Doulchard marl and Buzançais limestone), the terroir provides unique viticultural conditions that nourish the grapes with mineral virtues. Added to this is a climate that favors the development of ripe grapes. The Mellot family has more than 400 years of know-how behind it, and the winemaking process has remained unchanged and as special as ever. The vines are treated with the utmost care and caution, to ensure the best possible aromas for tasting.

Domaine Alphonse Mellot wines

Over the ages, Domaine La Moussière has built its reputation around two main grape varieties: Pinot Noir, used to produce Sancerre Rouge and Sancerre Rosé; and Sauvignon, used to produce Sancerre Blanc. Domaine de la Moussière offers a diverse range of wines, each as exquisite as the next. To name but a few, we recommend La Demoiselle and En Grands Champs.
