ROTY JOSEPH
Today, brothers Pierre-Jean and Philippe Roty are at the helm of Domaine Joseph Roty in Gevrey-Chambertin, a famous terroir in the Burgundy region. The 11th generation of winegrowers, they succeed their father Joseph in 2008, who founded the eponymous Domaine in 1960. This renowned family has been passionate about winegrowing since the early 18th century.
Geographical location
The various plots are located in the communes of Gevrey-Chambertin and Marsannay-la-Côte in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits region. Some of the Domaine's wines come from very old vines dating back to 1881. The vines are grown on clay-limestone soil, with short pruning and no use of chemicals. For grapes from old vines, the best bunches are selected to ensure that only the very best are kept. The wine is aged in oak barrels for almost a year and a half.
Domaine wines
The Domaine's Pinot wines are fruity, rich and complex. Very characteristic of their terroir, they can be kept for several years. Pierre-Jean and Philippe also produce flacons such as Marsannay and Marsannay Boivin, with spicy notes and opening onto red fruits and chocolate. Gevrey-Chambertin, in turn, expresses itself with notes of cherry and blackcurrant. A bottle with ripe tannins, opening on notes of smoked meat. Red wines that improve with age.
