BODEGAS CASTANO

The history of Bodegas Castaño cellars has been intertwined with that of the Castaño family for two generations. It began in 1950, when Ramón Castaño Santa started producing bulk wine. He saw the potential of the Monastrell grape, also known as Mourvèdre. It is perfectly suited to the local terroir. Ramón Castaño Santa expanded the family vineyards and bought up neighboring vineyards. Today, the Castaño brothers, Ramón, Juan Pedro and Daniel, are developing the estate internationally. Domaine Bodegas Castaño benefits from the expertise of experienced cellar master Mariano López. The wines produced are part of our selection of world wines.

Geographical location of the estate

Bodegas Castaño comprises 500 hectares of vineyards in the municipality of Yecla, in the autonomous region of Murcia. The vineyards are planted under the Yecla designation of origin. Mourvèdre is the main red grape variety grown. It is perfectly suited to the poor limestone soils of this region of Spain. It benefits from a continental climate, with one of the highest levels of sunshine in the country. This environment is ideal for ripening the concentrated, sun-drenched grapes.

Estate wines

The estate produces wines mainly from Mourvèdre, but also from varieties not native to Spain, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Vintage after vintage, the estate offers wines of character, produced organically. The 2013 Solanera, a blend of Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, was aged for 10 months in oak barrels. Purple in color, this bottle with its sweet blueberry and blackberry aromas offers unparalleled purity.
