RIVIERE OLIVIER

Olivier Rivière fell under the spell of La Rioja, a famous appellation in northern Spain, when he introduced biodynamic principles in 2004 to the estate of Telmo Rodriguez, a leading figure in Spanish wine. He began his adventure in 2006 by renting a few plots of vines. He cultivates according to organic and biodynamic principles. He intervenes little in the vinification process, and the wines are aged in vats or in wood (few new barrels are used to preserve the fruit aromas). A member of the Rioja'n'Roll collective, Olivier Rivière contributes to the revival of Spanish wines by producing singular wines that reflect their terroir of origin.

Location of the estate

Olivier Rivière's vineyards cover 10 hectares in several appellations: La Rioja, Navarra and Arlanza. He supplements his production with grapes purchased from other winemakers. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone with silt and sandstone bottoms, with a few parcels of sandy and gravelly soils.

Estate wines

Olivier Rivière makes red and white wines from a variety of grape varieties, including Tempranillo, Grenache, Carignan and Macabeu. Unlike the Spanish classification of wines according to barrel ageing (joven, crianza, reserva and gran reserva), Olivier's wines follow a classification of their own, similar to the classification of Burgundy crus. CuvéeGanko is a blend of Grenache and Carignan, offering aromas of fresh fruit such as blackcurrant, plum and cherry, with hints of violet and sweet spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and supple, with incredible freshness. Each Olivier Rivière wine has its own particularities, which we invite you to discover today!
