TENUTA SAN GUIDO

The Tenuta San Guido estate is much less well known than its flagship wine, Sassicaia. Its history began in 1944, when Mario Incisa della Rocchetta married Clarice della Gherardesca and created a vineyard on his wife's Tuscan land. His ambition was to create anItalian wine worthy of the great vintages of Bordeaux. While the Tuscan tradition uses Sangiovese and Nebbiolo grapes, he chooses to work with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. He brings cuttings from Château Lafite. The estate's first wines were marketed in 1968. The Tenuta San Guido estate plays a major role in the recognition of Bolgheri vineyards.

Location of Domaine Tenuta San Guido

Domaine Tenuta San Guido is located on the Tuscan coast, in the Bolgheri region of Italy. The vineyard covers 90 hectares of gravelly soil, similar to that of the Bordeaux region. The area benefits from an exceptional terroir, thanks to its proximity to the sea and the hills that protect the vineyards. This is recognized by the DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia label. Tenuta San Guido wines mark the rise of the great Italian wines known as "super Tuscans".
