CHÂTEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a very old wine estate in the Bordeaux region. In 1795, the Ducru family purchased the château. Bertrand Ducru decided to re-establish Château Ducru wines with Paul Abadie. Subsequently, the property was owned by several individuals, including Nathaniel Johnston and the Desbarats family. In 1941, the Borie family became owners of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. They went on to shape the reputation of this Bordeaux red wine. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou has been a Second Grand Cru since 1855. Today, Bruno-Eugène Borie manages the vintages of Ducru-Beaucaillou.

Location of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, Gironde. This commune is in the Médoc region. The name Ducru-Beaucaillou comes from a beautiful white pebble found in the vineyard. It plays a vital role in the quality of this red wine. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is located close to theGironde estuary. On its eastern side, the soil is made up of quaternary gravel. With few frosts, the grapes are harvested late and very ripe.

Wines of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou produces three wines in the Saint-Julien appellation. These are Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Croix de Beaucaillou and Petit Ducru. A bottle of Ducru-Beaucaillou features two grape varieties that give it its terroir aromas and ruby color. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot give this red wine its fruity notes and richness. The percentage of each grape variety changes according to the harvest. It's this perfect blend that gives Château Ducru-Beaucaillou's different cuvées their finesse, delicate tannins and fruity, floral notes. This Saint-Julien Rouge can be cellared for many years before tasting.
