CAVALLOTTO

Domaine Cavallotto is run by the fourth generation of the family: Laura, Giuseppe and Alfio. Great-grandfather Giacomo Cavallotto bought the estate in 1928 from Giuseppe Boschis. It is located in northernItaly, in the Piedmont region. In Castiglione-Falletto, a neighboring commune of Barolo, the Cavallotto family cultivates 25 hectares according to the principles of organic farming. The family produces mainly red wine from typical Piedmont grape varieties.

Location of the Cavallotto estate

The tenuta Cavallotto vineyards are located in the Bricco Boschis hills, near the village of Barolo. It forms a single block, from the valley to the top of the hill. The highest ground, called Vigna Punta Marcello, rises to 350 meters above sea level. The Bricco Boschis vineyards benefit from a mild climate in autumn and spring, ideal for the development of vine fruit.

The soil structure of Bricco Boschis is quite unique in the Barolo region. The subsoil is composed of clay-limestone marl on which sand lies. The vines are on average around fifty years old. The red wines of the Cavallotto estate reflect this geological originality. Nebbiolo is grown on 17 hectares. Barbera, Dolcetto, Grignolino and Freisa are the other grape varieties grown to produce the estate's red wines. The Cantina, the winery where the wine is made and bottled, is located at the top of Bricco Boschis.

Cavallotto estate wines

The winegrowing family produces two Barolo appellation crus. These Barolo DOCGs are made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. Domaine Cavallotto also produces red wines in theDolcetto d'Alba appellation and Barbera d'Alba. The estate is also present in the Langhe appellation with several single-varietal red wines (Freisa and Nebbiolo).
