GRAS ALAIN

Alain Gras has been working the terroir of Saint-Romain, Burgundy, since 1979. He produces red and white wines typical of the region. Alain Gras grows Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on his Côte de Beaune land. To protect the balance of the Burgundy terroir, he treats his vines in a sustainable manner. Hand-picking preserves the fruit. As a result, Alain produces elegant, fresh wines with dominant fruit notes.

Geographical location of Domaine Alain Gras

Domaine Alain Gras is located in the commune of Saint-Romain, Burgundy. The village lies between Meursault and Pommard. In all, Alain Gras manages 12 hectares of vines on the Côte de Beaune. He owns parcels in the commune of Saint-Romain, but also in Auxey-Duresses and Meursault. On this terroir, the vines grow on sloping ground and benefit from clay-limestone soil. The vines must therefore sink their roots into rocky soil. This specificity of the Côte de Beaune terroir lends fresh, mineral notes to Alain Gras wines.

Domaine Alain Gras wines

The domaine produces only Village appellation Burgundy wines. Alain Gras offers a bottle of Saint-Romain Rouge, a Pinot Noir with a very fruity mouthfeel. He also makes a Chardonnay de Saint-Romain, with a powerful nose. Alain recommends tasting his Saint-Romains young, to better appreciate their nose and flavor. With his vines in Meursault, the winemaker produces a white wine cuvée. The Meursault Chardonnay is powerful and well-balanced on the palate. As for Auxey-Duresses wines, the domaine offers a bottle of Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay in the Village appellation. The Auxey-Duresses Blanc has a floral nose, with a woody background. The Auxey-Duresses Rouge is full-bodied, with notes of ripe fruit.
