DOG POINT

Dog Point Vineyard is a wine pioneer in Marlborough, New Zealand. It is also the region's largest organic estate. Ivan and Margaret Sutherland began planting their vineyard in the late 1970s. While working at Cloudy Bay Estate, Ivan met James Healy. The two men shared the same approach to wine and decided to join forces, creating Dog Point. Since then, the two families have run the estate planted by the Sutherlands. In 2009, Dog Point began its conversion to organic farming. Today, the estate's wine (Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) is certified organic by New Zealand's Biogro NZ.

Location of Domaine Dog Point

Dog Point Vineyard is located in the Marlborough wine region. With its sunny, dry climate, this New Zealand terroir is ideal for growing vines. The silty clay soil produces fruit rich in aroma. The Dog Point vineyard is planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. James, Ivan and his team harvest the grapes by hand to preserve their quality.

Domaine Dog Point wines

At Domaine Dog Point, we create a quality wine that can be kept without losing its aromatic notes. The estate offers white wine and Pinot Noir. The Dog Point classic is Sauvignon Blanc: a dry wine with fresh lemon notes and a slight acidity. Section 94 is another, more complex Sauvignon Blanc, aged in French oak for 18 months. It displays minerality and vegetal notes on the palate. The final white wine, Chardonnay, offers aromas of lemon and toast. This New Zealand Chardonnay reveals itself with age. Finally, Pinot Noir is the only red wine produced on the estate. On the palate, fruit and floral notes accompany its suppleness.
