CHÂTEAU DE FIEUZAL

The origins of Château de Fieuzal date back to the 16th century. The Château's earliest lands were owned by the Dabadie family. They later became the property of the Fieuzal family through marriage and inheritance. After the death of Lovely Fieuzal, the family's last descendant, in 1851, the estate united the lands of Fieuzal and Haut-Gardère. At the end of the 19th century, the Ricards, well known in the wine world, acquired the château and ran it until 1974, working to give it an enviable reputation and quality. Since 2001, Lochlann and Brenda Quinn have been the owners. The two Irishmen are passionate about French wine, and are keen to maintain the authenticity and typicity of the estate's wines. In 2007, Stephen Carrier took over the management of the château.

Location of Château Fieuzal

Spread over 80 hectares, the estate is at the heart of what could be called the historic cradle of Pessac-Léognan wine . The vineyards are planted on gravelly hillside plots specifically adapted to the estate's different grape varieties. Stephen Carrier and his young, dynamic and conservative team work the rich white gravel soils. These soils are particularly well drained and give off all the heat they receive from the sun. The estate is managed on an intra-parcel basis. The vines, which are on average 30 years old, are planted at a density of 9,000 vines per hectare, using purely traditional methods. Integrated viticulture, selective sorting and manual harvesting are the norm at this estate. Vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled vats made of concrete, stainless steel and wood. Barrel ageing takes an average of 14 months.
