CASTIGLION DEL BOSCO

In 2003, Massimo Ferragamo took over the Castiglion del Bosco estate. Located in Italy, in the heart of Tuscany, this estate has been intimately linked to the history of the region and that of the Sienese families since the XIXᵉ century. Vineyards have always been part of the estate's landscape. In fact, in 1967, Castiglion del Bosco took part in the creation of the Brunello di Montalcino wine consortium, which manages this appellation. Thanks to Massimo Ferragamo, the Castiglion del Bosco estate has become a key player in the history of Brunello di Montalcino wine.

Location of the Castiglion del Bosco estate

The Castiglion del Bosco estate is located in Tuscany, in the heart of the Val d'Orcia. Nestled to the northeast of Montalcino, the 62-hectare estate is divided between two vineyards: Gauggiole and Capanna. Their appearance, exposure and soils are totally different. The Gauggiole vineyards are almost exclusively reserved for the production of Rosso di Montalcino appellation wine. Capanna, on the other hand, produces Brunello di Montalcino.

Wines from the Castiglion del Bosco estate

The wines of Domaine Castiglion del Bosco are theexpression of Sangiovese, the local red grape variety. These are powerful wines with a fine sense of terroir. The Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Toscana IGT appellations are represented. The estate pays particular attention to the needs of each vineyard plot. It advocates a minimum of intervention. Grapes are harvested and selected by hand. Grapes from each plot are fermented separately, to preserve their distinctive aromas. Ageing begins in French oak barrels. It then continues for 6 to 36 months in bottle, before being sold. The Castiglion del Bosco estate received organic certification in 2016.
