VOILLOT JOSEPH
Joseph Voillot founded his estate in Volnay in 1840. The vineyards gradually spread over the renowned terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Until 1957, a third of production was bottled at the estate. In 1994, Jean-Pierre Charlot took over from fourth-generation winemaker Joseph Voillot. Steeped in Burgundian traditions, the winemaker follows in his father-in-law's footsteps.
Long a professor of oenology in Beaune, Jean-Pierre Charlot brings his expertise to the winemaking process. All production is now vinified on the estate. He also introduced integrated viticulture practices. Today, Domaine Joseph Voillot produces renowned Burgundy wines. Jean-Pierre Charlot is gradually handing over the running of the vines to his nephew, Étienne Chaix, from 2019.
Geographical location of Domaine Joseph Voillot
The Domaine Joseph Voillot vineyards stretch over four prestigious communes on the Côte de Beaune: Meursault, Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. It covers 8 hectares of vines, mainly planted with Pinot Noir. Some parcels have very old vines, particularly in the Volnay appellation. On the Les Champans and Les Fremiets climats, they are almost a hundred years old.
The vineyards flourish on predominantly clay-limestone soils. However, there is a great diversity of nuances depending on the geographical location of the plots on the hillside.
Domaine Joseph Voillot wines
Domaine Joseph Voillot produces 11 red and 2 white Burgundy appellations. In the Pommard appellation, the domaine offers four Premiers Crus from the Clos Micault, Les Pézerolles, Les Épenots and Les Rugiens climats. The three Volnay Premiers Crus, Les Caillerets, Les Champans and Les Fremiets, and the Beaune Premier Cru Aux Coucherias enrich this range of great Burgundy wines. In white, the Meursault Premier Cru Les Cras appellation delights wine lovers.
