LIGNIER-MICHELOT

Domaine Lignier-Michelot embodies the revival of family estates producing great Burgundy wines. Today, Virgile Lignier is at the helm of the domaine. He represents the third generation of winemakers on this family estate in Morey-Saint-Denis. He worked with his father Maurice from 1988 until his retirement in 2000.

At the helm with his wife Laure, Virgile Lignier aims to perpetuate traditions, but also to introduce new practices that respect the soil and the vines. He converted the vineyard to organic farming in 2010 and modernized the winery. His aim: to reveal the typicity of Burgundy's great terroirs.

Geographical location of Domaine Lignier-Michelot

Virgile Lignier's vineyards extend over almost 10 hectares around the village of Morey-Saint-Denis on the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard is divided into some sixty small plots, mainly in the communes of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and, of course, Morey-Saint-Denis. The latter village concentrates the bulk of the estate's production on its renowned climats: Aux Charmes, Chenevery, Les Faconnières and Les Genavrières.

Until 1992, the domaine made no wine. But since 2000, all wines are vinified by Virgile Lignier. They are aged in oak barrels for 10 to 13 months and in stainless steel vats for 4 months.
