DES ARDOISIERES

Domaine des Ardoisières is the story of Savoie's Allobroges region. This vineyard is the culmination of a collective project. A town council, local associations and winemaker Michel Grisard recreated a vineyard in 1998 on the steep slopes of Cevins. Their aim: to bring vines back to life on this Savoy terroir. In 2005, winegrower Brice Omont became the manager of Domaine des Ardoisières. He works the vines biodynamically. It's an obvious choice, in keeping with the desire of the estate's founders for a profound respect for the terroir and living organisms.

Geographical location of Domaine des Ardoisières

Domaine des Ardoisières is located in Fréterive, between the towns of Albertville and Chambéry, in the heart of Savoie. The first vines were planted in 1998 on the Cevins hillside. Facing south, they grow in terraces on micaschist rock (schist, mica, quartz) and silty-sandy soil.

At the end of 2008, Brice Omont rented vines on the Saint-Pierre-de-Soucy hillsides, south of Fréterive, in the same Alpine corridor. They are planted on clay-limestone soil derived from schistose marl. The new vineyard faces west. Domaine des Ardoisières now covers 13 hectares, including 10 hectares of white wine and 3 hectares of red wine.

Domaine des Ardoisières wines

Brice Omont produces three organic white wines (IGP Vins des Allobroges): the cuvées Quartz and Schiste on the Cevins hillside, and the cuvée Argile on the Saint-Pierre-de-Soucy hillside. They are made from mainly Savoyard grape varieties: Jacquère, Mondeuse blanche, Malvoisie, Roussane, Altesse and Chardonnay.

Domaine des Ardoisières also produces two organic Allobroges red wines: Cuvée Argile (Saint-Pierre de Soucy) and Améthyste (Cevins). These wines are made from native Savoy grape varieties: Persan, Mondeuse noire and Gamay (in Saint-Pierre-de-Soucy).
