FOILLARD

In 1981, Jean Foillard took over the family vineyard in the heart of the Beaujolais region. Inspired by the teachings of Jules Chauvet, the father of natural wine, the winemaker quickly became one of the most dynamic representatives of "free" wines. From then on, his son Alex gradually took over the vineyard.

Today, Domaine Foillard covers 22 hectares of 100% Gamay. In particular, it covers two renowned terroirs in the Morgon appellation: Côte du Py and Corcelette. The quality of the wines produced has shaped the domaine's reputation in France and around the world.

Geographical location of Domaine Foillard

Jean Foillard's estate is located in Villié-Morgon, the birthplace of the Morgon appellation. To the south of the village, the vines of the famous Côte du Py terroir thrive on poor "rotten rock " soil: bluestone and schist derived from volcanic decomposition. The rest of the vines are rooted in predominantly granitic soils. Finally, Jean Foillard's vineyards benefit from a temperate climate and optimal sunshine.

The soils, climate and exposure favor the expression of the Gamay grape. As a result, the wines benefit from the intensity and power of the Morgon appellation.

Domaine Foillard wines

Domaine Foillard is certified organic and aims to respect the nature of the fruit and the terroir. Harvesting is manual. Vinification is by carbonic maceration using indigenous yeasts. No sulfites are added. 80% of the wine is aged in barrels.

The domaine's production remains limited but highly sought-after. Jean Foillard produces three renowned Morgon cuvées: Cuvée Côte du Py, Cuvée Corcelette and Cuvée Classique. On a terroir close to Villié-Morgon, the winemaker also produces a cuvée Fleurie, another great Beaujolais appellation.
