HUMBERT FRERES

Domaine Humbert Frères benefits from one of Burgundy 's most prestigious terroirs: Gevrey-Chambertin. This family estate is run by brothers Frédéric and Emmanuel Humbert. These passionate winegrowers meticulously tend a vineyard composed mainly of old Pinot Noir vines. Yields may be low, but the quality of their Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines is present in every vintage.

Geographical location of Domaine Humbert Frères

With its seven hectares, the Humbert Frères estate is relatively modest in size. But that doesn't stop it from producing great Côte de Nuits red wines. Most of the vineyards are located in Gevrey-Chambertin, a Côte d'Or commune renowned worldwide among red wine enthusiasts. The vineyards are planted exclusively with Pinot Noir grapes. The estate's vines are old, frequently over 50 years old. Domaine Humbert Frères also owns a small parcel in Fixin, north of Gevrey-Chambertin.

Domaine Humbert Frères wines

Despite the already low yields of its old Pinot Noir vines, Domaine Humbert Frères does not hesitate to resort to green harvesting. The fruit is partially destemmed before vinification, which is carried out by natural fermentation. The wine is aged for between 16 and 18 months. Fifty percent of the wine is aged in new oak barrels for the Premiers Crus, and 100% for the Grand Cru. The wine is neither fined nor filtered before bottling.

Domaine Humbert Frères' most prestigious wine is undoubtedly its Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru. But its Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru wines are not to be outdone. These are Gevrey-Chambertin Premiers Cru Poissenot, Petite Chapelle, Estournelles-Saint-Jacques and Craipillot. In the village appellation, the domaine produces an excellent Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, as well as a Fixin. In the regional appellation, the domaine produces a Bourgogne rouge.
