TEMPIER
Domaine Tempier is one of the oldest estates in Bandol. It was the marriage of Lucie Tempier to Lucien Peyraud in 1940 that made the estate a part of the history of the great wines of Provence. The couple worked tirelessly to establish the reputation of Bandol wines and its king grape variety, Mourvèdre, in France.
The Bandol appellation grew with Domaine Tempier. Restanques, terraces, the Mediterranean and the Mistral have shaped their shared history. The estate still belongs to the Tempier-Peyraud family, but the vineyard is managed by Daniel Ravier.
Geographical location of Domaine Tempier
The vines of Domaine Tempier were first planted on the terroir of La Bastide, in Plan du Castellet, north-east of Bandol. Seven hectares of vines in an exceptional natural environment. Today, the vineyard extends over a mosaic of 60 hectares of plots, spread over characterful terroirs including: La Tourtine (5.5 hectares), La Migoua (11 hectares), Cabassaou (1.5 hectares) and La Laidière (18 hectares).
Along with Mourvèdre, the Tempier family blends the sunny grape varieties of Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache and Carignan. They thrive on predominantly clay-limestone soils that are well exposed to the sun and protected from the wind.
Domaine Tempier wines
Lucie Tempier and Lucien Peyraud wanted to produce long-keeping wines in the image of the great wines of France. Inspired by theparcel-by-parcel approach of Burgundy wines, the winemakers set out to reveal the complexity of their terroirs.
Domaine Tempier produces four great red wines in the Bandol appellation. Three of these are plot-based cuvées: La Tourtine, La Migoua and Cabassaou. The fourth is the famous cuvée Lulu et Lucien, a tribute to the family's two pioneers. The estate also produces a Bandol rosé and a Bandol white.
